Olang is located in the heart of the Dolomites Region Kronplatz and at the gateway to the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park – one of the most spectacular parts of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage. Surrounded by pristine nature, vibrant culture, and authentic rural traditions, our aim is to preserve this unique space for life and recreation for future generations.
As a tourism association, we are committed to developing Olang as a sustainable travel destination. We are currently working – in close cooperation with the Tourist Info Antholz Valley – on the foundation for certification according to the criteria of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), supported by IDM South Tyrol. As part of a structured process, we are gathering all relevant measures, projects, and developments with a clear goal: to take long-term ecological, social, and economic responsibility.
For us, sustainable tourism means the conscious use of resources, the promotion of regional value creation, and the preservation of the natural and cultural diversity that makes Olang so special.
The Sustainability Label South Tyrol is based on the criteria of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), which establish a shared understanding of sustainable tourism. The criteria are divided into four main areas:
Management
Socio-Economy
Culture
Ecology
The label allows destinations, accommodation, and gastronomy businesses to transparently showcase their commitment to sustainable development. Sustainability is a long-term journey, which is why the label has three progressive levels, each verified through an audit. Each level requires compliance with different criteria, with the highest level corresponding to the GSTC certification, which is internationally recognized.
The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) was established in 2007 and is dedicated to defining fundamental sustainability standards in tourism. GSTC serves as an international benchmark for responsible, sustainable tourism. Independent auditors review annual activity reports and assess actual progress.
The evaluation standards are divided into four main areas:
Sustainable Management
Socio-Economic Sustainability
Cultural Sustainability
Environmental Sustainability

In August 2025, Italian street artist Omar Allievi, known by the name Cage, realized a special art project in Mitterolang. The large canvas depicting the alpine lake, previously displayed on the façade of the old town hall, was given a completely new meaning through a creative process of upcycling.
With spray cans, colors, and his distinctive artistic language, Omar transformed the existing material into a unique artwork – sending a strong message of sustainability and creative reuse.
The project impressively demonstrated how existing elements can be reinterpreted through art without consuming additional resources. Many locals and visitors witnessed the process on site and experienced live how an old image evolved into a new, contemporary piece of art.
With our project “My Tree, Our Forest”, we have planted new trees in Kids World Olang to strengthen the local forests.
Together with the Oberolang municipal administration, the forestry office, and the garden center Obojes, we focus on sustainable reforestation. This creates a biodiverse forest, providing habitat for animals and plants, supporting the climate, and giving children the opportunity to actively experience and appreciate nature through tree sponsorships.
The Olang Tourist Association has developed a comprehensive strategy for sustainable tourism development – based on the Provincial Tourism Concept 2030+ and aligned with the Municipal Development Programme.
The goal is to strengthen Olang as a climate-friendly, year-round destination, enhance local value creation, make culture more visible, and protect natural resources in the long term.
The strategy is structured around four core fields of action: management, socio-economy, culture and ecology – each defined by clear objectives, measures and timelines.
Our Code of Ethics is our guiding principle: it brings together our values of collaboration, equal opportunities, community, environmental stewardship, and cultural identity.
With this code, we commit to tourism that is honest, sustainable, respectful, and inclusive – for the people of our region and for generations to come.
Olang can now proudly call itself “Climate Community Silver”!
The award from the Climate Community program recognizes our commitment to sustainable energy policy and climate protection.
The Silver certification is another step toward a future-oriented, climate-friendly community – for us and for future generations.
